- Does a vegetarian diet provide
enough protein?
A balanced vegetarian diet will provide plenty of protein from
dairy products, eggs, grains, beans, and nuts. Vegans - vegetarians
who don't eat dairy products - also can get adequate protein, but
they need to plan their diet more carefully.
- If I am extremely active do
I need protein supplements?
Serious athletes may need more protein than the average person.
But you can easily get enough from your food without using protein
powders, pills, or other products. Most people consume 150% to
200% of the RDA for protein in their food alone.
- Is reducing calorie intake
an effective way to lose weight?
If your calorie intake is more than what is recommended for your
age and body weight, then reducing your calorie intake in addition
to regularly exercising is a great way to lose weight. If you
severely restrict your calorie intake, you'll begin to break down
muscle for energy and develop other health problems.
- Is olive oil healthy to cook
with even though it has a high fat content?
All oils have a high fat content but remember, fat is not necessarily
bad. Olive oil, like other monounsaturated fats, has been show
to raise HDL levels and reduce the risk of heart disease. But
remember: Olive oil should be enjoyed in place of, not in addition
to, other fats like butter and margarine.
